Just curious about the member, new members and visitors who haven't posted. If you have a reason not to post that would be good for me to know.
You will need to login to answer. Also you will need to view on the web to take the poll.

Is there a reason why some of you are lurking but not learning?

Why do we 'fall off'? I lurked for only a couple weeks before I found the books I wanted to learn from, then I really dove in and from week to week was real happy with my progress. But you know how it goes...at some point some of us just fall off and don't continue/come back for a long time. Our conscience prods us sometimes to take it up again...hopefully we do. I'd just like to finish the course. I would guesstimate that I was at about the half-way point. But would I ever like to be able to write fast to my own satisfaction (nobody else would ever read it).
Has anyone here ever offered to give an online course? I think that would really help with keeping interest and moving along. To have a short assignment to do each week and then get to come back and dialog with others about it would be nice. (I've never enjoyed suffering alone) LOL
Edit: Well...I guess there would have to be a few classes for joining whichever version we wanted to learn....

Lurking because I want to relearn shorthand - have not used in in a long time - but don't have time right now to take it back up again.

I'm lurking because I totally forget about this forum... I registered about three month ago. I learned it two years ago, but as a Chinese, I seldom use it. This spring I used it to take notes, then I found myself forgetting lots of things... Then I found this forum, ready to study, but I was quite busy for a week and I totally forgot about this [abash]
However, thank you so much for your email, Debbi. But I'm not sure how to use this forum. I mean, I know all the rules, but not familiar with lots of words.

That is kind of what I wanted this to be, an online course. However, there just isn't enough people joining in to form a "class" or group of people. I suppose if you want, maybe choose a start date and see who wants to join. I could even do a board, or subboard, for groups of members or "students". For example, there could be one called "September Starters" or something like that. All those who want to start in September would join that group. It would be an informal gathering place to discuss shorthand and keep everyone motivated. There could be another for advanced students, or those who are learning slower due to personal life issues, etc. Thoughts on that?

We have a lot of "views" so maybe "lurkers?" I know you have to login to take the poll, but that gives you an opportunity to answer other polls and reply to other threads.

This board has been a resource for me. Hearing about other peoples experiences with Gregg shorthand motivated me to brush up my DJS shorthand.
Every morning I'm on the subway for 20 minutes. I have a note 4 phone which has a stylus and note application which I use for shorthand. I listen to a podcast and try to write it down in shorthand for a few minutes. Next I play it back and see that I can read the shorthand faster than the play back. The commute time goes by quickly.

It would be an informal gathering place to discuss shorthand and keep everyone motivated. I'll probably be posting in the In-person study group and Feedback for improving my shorthand threads as my coworker and I start learning Gregg together. I could post what our self-assigned "homework" is, so anyone who wants to learn along with us can join in. Or even follow in our footsteps, if they find this forum after we're done.

Yes, please post your "homework" and "assignments" wherever you want. We do have an "assignment log" section and you could post what you're learning, just the lessons, and then people can follow along if they want ( greggshorthand.proboards.com/board/15/assignment-lesson-logs ). Or follow your "teaching" method later. There might be some that come later or haven't started yet (still lurking) and might follow along.

If I could edit the poll, I'd add "know shorthand". But since there's so much to learn, just click on "learning shorthand" if you've went through a book or class.
Although I suppose if you're advanced and know everything I'll add you as an Admin.

I'm learning, but am doing Simplified rather than Anni. I am thinking I will use some of the shortcuts and abbreviating principle with it, but I'm still very much in the beginning.
