I notice there are a lot of guests who come by (meaning they don't log in if they are members).
Since this section allows for guests to post and reply, please let me know why you don't log in or join. Just curious. Also, then I can see what maybe needs to be done with this board--if anything is needed at all.
Thank you in advance. Debbi
PS: I can change this section to not allow guests at all, if it gets too much sp@m.
"Gregg Shorthand had achieved the most extraordinary success ever attained by any system in the history of shorthand." John Robert Gregg, 1922
Life on life's terms interfered with my refreshing my shorthand skills, but I do what I can. I use a lot of brief forms sprinkled throughout my longhand, and frequently shorten longhand words to their phonetic sounds. I check back to the Board occasionally and usually sign in as a member. I know it's disheartening to see so little activity on the Board, but there's a wealth of material here I would be very sad to have it go away.
I often read the posts without logging in. If I want to write a post myself, I log in. I agree with Angie Evans that only signed-in members should be allowed to post here. Anonymous posting is a temptation to abuse. For instance, two recent anonymous posts seem to link to ads for Prednisone. A good way to discourage that sort of thing is to disallow anonymous posting. Can you do that, Deb, or does Proboards allow anonymous posting on all their users' sites? If the latter, that's very bad policy.
I only had guests allowed on the General Board (this one). I've made the change so only Members & Staff can create threads, reply and create polls.
Actually Proboards also allows you to take off all view of the boards if you want. Only members can see. However, I think some countries or there are other ways to view the boards, if not participate. I wouldn't want to do that with this.
Most of the unwanted posts come from those joining and posting. I rarely see a "guest" post some unwanted. As soon as I see them, I ban the user's IP and delete the tread. I've banned users but kept most of the thread if it seems useful to Gregg Shorthand. For example, one I took off the signature that had a link to some off site place. It had nothing to do with shorthand at all. But the post sort of did.
I'm in a similar "life on life's terms" situation that ratchie55 described in an answer above. I had to put away shorthand for a while. Plus, my own shorthand page on Google Plus got closed because Google Plus is closed now too. What a shame. But, I'm glad I'm still a member here!
