Do you write the H-Dot before you write the outline, as instructed? Or do you go back and add it after you've written the outline? Or what? Please give examples if you have different ways of doing this.

I don't know why anyone would suggest doing the dot first. That'd be like crossing your T's and dotting your "i's" before writing words with T's and i's. JMHO

Funny, I was just thinking about this the other day. I always add dots later. For example, "heading", I would write "e-d-ing-hdot"

Makes sense. I agree with them that if you learned it that way, it would be faster to place the dot first. As usual, though, if you learned it the other way, switching to the "faster" method would be difficult because the old way is so ingrained, the time lost to hesitation over when to place the hdot would more than outweigh the gain in speed. So I'll stick to the tried-and-true!

I place the h dot first except when it occurs in the middle of an outline, in which case I write it after finishing the outline (e.g."perhaps", "unhappy"). I don't view writing it first as like dotting an i before writing it; h is a separate letter, not just part of a letter like the dot on an i.

I don't view writing it first as like dotting an i before writing it; h is a separate letter, not just part of a letter like the dot on an i. That sounds right. Putting it first if you hear it first. Since we write mostly by sound, it makes sense.
